Evan is the IRC’s General Assistant Staff Programmer, where he builds interactive experiences using gaming engines (including Unreal Engine, Unity, C++, and C#). With a background in Computer Science and an Individualized Major in Game Soundtrack Design, he brings a rare blend of technical and musical expertise to the IRC’s projects.
Outside the IRC, Evan is an active game developer whose projects—King Scribble and Phantom Feline—have been showcased at events such as MAGFest, Indie Game Fest, and District Arcade. He often leads programming or coordination roles, guiding teams through design, development, and integration of dynamic audio systems using tools like Wwise and FMOD.
He is currently contributing to The Polar Ice Museum, IRC’s collaboration with IHARP, a climate‑focused virtual ice‑cave exhibition. Evan is responsible for shaping the sound experience of the project and he develops live data to animation connecting the users breath to real-time animation. At the IRC, he learned TouchDesigner and experimented with Kinect‑based body tracking to create playful, intuitive ways for visitors to engage with environmental information.
From his interdisciplinary education to his self-directed gaming entrepreneurship, Evan McRae is an exciting and unique asset for the IRC team!
